Body Lift in Sydney
Body lift in Sydney for body contouring after massive weight loss
Have you had bariatric surgery and reached your ideal weight? Feeling like a Shar Pei? Now that you have gotten your weight under control, how to get rid of those extra rolls that no longer fit? A body lift may seem like a drastic measure, but it may be the answer for you.
Surely my body will tone up with enough work at the gym?
Skin on your trunk is usually stretched by one of two means – either loss of skin tone or increased fat. Once fat is lost, the degree to which the skin retracts to its initial state depends on a handful of factors – genetics, the amount of remaining fat, and the remaining structural integrity or tone of the skin. The rate of weight loss is actually less important than the rate of initial weight gain!
The main factor that will prevent skin from retracting is loss of skin tone. Although you can strengthen the underlying muscles and lose the remaining fat, there is no method (other than surgery) of tightening the overlying skin, especially if it has stretch marks.
What is involved in a body lift in Sydney?
A body lift is essentially a combination of an abdominoplasty with a lateral thigh & buttock lift. Like many operations, a body lift needs to address several components to achieve the best results. Addressing one component without considering the others is likely to provide a sub-optimal result.
Your skin tone, position of fat, muscle position and tone, and any prior scars will help determine which technique or pattern will give you the best results. Additionally, your needs, such as ability to take time off work and sports and the importance of scar position and length, will need to be considered. For our patients getting a body lift in Sydney, we consider all of these factors to decide on an individualised surgical approach.
Will liposuction work?
Very few patients will have a great result from liposuction only. Without removing any skin damaged by stretch marks, the most likely result is a tummy & thighs that are less fatty but more floppy. It is like wearing an old jacket (or sleeping bag) where the filling has been compressed or worn out, but the layers on either side have not been changed. A body lift is an operation that is designed to remove excess skin, and with that comes scars.
When should I think about a body lift in Sydney?
The ideal time for a body lift is after your weight has been stable for a year or two. The closer you are to your ideal weight, the better your result will be and the longer it will last. And the happier you will be!
