Like all procedures, there are a few elements to take into consideration when billing for a Breast Reconstruction Operation. The fees include:
• The Surgeon’s Fee (+/- Assistant’s fee)
• The Anaesthetist’s Fee
• The Hospital/Facility Fee (includes both the Theatre & Accommodation Fees)
• Post operative garments (Surgical Bra)
For reconstructive procedures, we charge the fees recommended by the Australian Medical Association.
The cost of breast reconstruction is approximately :-
Microsurgical breast reconstruction using body fat (TRAM): from $9 000* out of pocket with top private health insurance cover
Breast implant reconstruction with muscle flap coverage: from $7 000* out of pocket with top private health insurance cover
Tissue expansion reconstruction***: from $8 500* (two surgeries) out of pocket with top private health insurance cover
*Prices effective as of July 2011 and includes one breast
**Depending on your choice of implants or expanders, your health fund may not completely cover these costs. It is strongly suggested that you check with your health fund which implant costs they will cover
*** This fee includes the cost of inserting the tissue expander, all the follow up consultations for tissue expansion, the exchange of the expander for a ‘normal’ anatomical silicone prosthesis and aftercare of that operation.
